* We do not list a "designated" PCIe SSD slot in any of our sales or manual documentation.

* The online XPS 8930 Service Manual pages 18 and 19 are current and valid.ġ3 PCI-Express x16 card slot (SLOT1) (Video card)ġ4 PCI-Express x1 card slots (SLOT 2 and SLOT 3)Ĩ solid-state drive slot (M.2 SSD) (underneath the two black SATA3 SATA4 ports) Is there a current MB (motherboard) layout available that explains the slots and configuration? So far, there are too many variables to push the "Buy Button" yet. So hopefully someone here can help me figure this all out. My other choice I guess is to go to a system builder for a custom set up but I have been buying Dell for so many years I'd like to stay with them. Like all manufacturer, they change designs and specifications and it can impact the build or reliability of a system. I am a bit frustrated as I have been trying to get specific questions asked about the system motherboard configurations on the "Current Build" product. Is there a Dell Sales person that understands audio that can know what I am talking about? So far anytime I specify a SSD or ask any technical questions I am having a hard time in getting an answer. Can I remove the WiFi card or do I just turn it off.Ħ. I do not need WiFi only the onboard 1 GHz network connection.

This will be an Audio DAW machine only, Windows 10 Pro, 1TB PCIe x4 SSD system - program drive, 2TB HDD 7200 rpm back up drive and a 1TB PCIe x4 SSD on a PCIe adapter card for audio.ĥ. I could do that at a later date if I decided to change my monitor.Ĥ.

So I am hoping that I do not have to install a graphics card at this time. ProTools is working fine on my XPS 8300 in 1080p. Is the onboard graphics Intel UHD 630 for this type of set up? I am trying to keep the system from having a noisy hot graphics adapter that is not needed. I have had to many issues trying to go to a 4k monitors with many applications so I have decided at this point to stay with a 1920x1080p monitor. I do not play games, this is specifically for a DAW and my current monitor is a 1080p. Does anyone know what SSD's are shipping in the current Dell Builds?ģ. I want to use that slot to hold a PCIe x4 SSD as a Audio Hard drive with a PCIe adapter card.Ģ. I do not want to use this slot for my OS -System SSD. In the MB layouts I've seen, I have not seen where the PCIe x4 slot for the new SSD is? Other than the 4th slot down on the MB that is a PCIe x4 slot. Is there a current MB (motherboard) layout available that explains the slots and configuration? I have pulled up several and they seem to conflict with others. I do no use VI only a number of Plug-ins and Slate Digital effects. So I am going to move up to the i7-8700 CPU in hopes of having a much faster performance DAW. My current system is an XPS 8300 with the Intel i7-2600 CPU. I am looking at the XPS 8930 to be used as a ProTools DAW and plan to configure on ProTools on this system.
